what is newborn hearing screening. how is it done and why is this necessary.
screening is done using the auto acoustic emission test it is used to find out how tell the inner ear or cochlea works .There are hairs cells in the inner ear that respond to sound by vibrating .The vibrations produce a very quite sound that ecos back into the middle ear. These quite echoes are measured as OAE.They are present if hearing is normal and generally absent there is mild or greater hearing loss.
